Ford Wet Belts

Premature failure issues with certain Ford engine wet belts have been widely publicised in the last couple of years and have even been highlighted on a recent episode of the BBC The One Show (Feb 2024).

Until now Ford has recommended that the wet belts in their 2.0TDci Ecoblue engines should be replaced every 10 years or 150,000 miles, but many owners of these vehicles are experiencing failure long before these milestones. As a result, Ford now recommends more regular wet belt inspections and have reduced the recommended replacement interval from ten years to six.

The following vehicle models have the engine type that can be affected:

• Ford Rangers
• Ford Transit Customs
• Ford Tourneo Customs
• Ford 300/330/350/410/470 Transits

It is essential that a wet belt is replaced BEFORE it fails – total failure causes irreparable damage and will mean a completely new engine is required. Accessing and replacing a wet belt is a lengthy procedure but far less costly than a completely new engine.
